About Data Wranglers

Data Wranglers is a specialist consultancy for operational businesses in agriculture, mining, logistics and manufacturing. We fix the data foundations that make running an operation harder than it should be. We are not a software vendor. We are not a generalist consultancy. We are operators who learned data because the operational data problems we kept running into were costing real money.

Founder's Story

I'm David Anderson.

I started Data Wranglers because I've been the person who needed the number that wasn't there.

I spent six years running operations at Australia's largest commercial avocado nursery. We grew from 21 to 47 staff and increased production capacity by 43%. But the growth nearly broke us. Not because of the operations themselves, but because our data systems couldn't keep up.

We were making six-figure planting decisions based on spreadsheets that required manual fixes every week. Forecasting was rebuilt from scratch every month. Critical business logic lived in the head of one person who had been there for years, and then left. When things went wrong, we often didn't know until it was too late to fix it cheaply.

So I fixed it. I rebuilt the data foundations from the ground up. One source of truth for inventory and production. Forecasting that reflected what the operation could actually do. Reporting that showed where we were and where we were headed without anyone having to rebuild it each week.

The result was a 27% improvement in profitability and the confidence to scale without constant firefighting. We stopped guessing at commitments and started delivering on them.

From there I moved into data engineering at Glencore's Mount Isa Copper Operation, where I built the ore flow tracking and workforce visibility systems that connected previously isolated data sources into operational reporting that gave managers a real picture of what what happening.

I founded Data Wranglers in 2025 on the basis that operational businesses are better served by someone who has run an operation than by someone who has only consulted to one.

If your reporting is fragile, your numbers can't be trusted, or your team spends more time maintaining data than using it, I have been there. And I know how to fix it.
